Sculpture by the Sea 2012
Exposure for Mitten products can come in diverse formats. For the second year, Mitten Vinyl Australia has sponsored Sydney artist Aaron Anderson for his artwork, featuring vinyl weatherboard cladding, to be displayed in the Sculpture by the Sea outdoor art exhibition at Bondi Beach. Aaron has used vinyl cladding supplied by Mitten Vinyl Australia to complete the exterior of his ‘suburban monument (ruin)’ creation, which represents the contrast between public and personal monuments. Over 200,000 visitors view the exhibition, in which 113 sculptures by artists from around the world transform the spectacular coastal walk into a magnificent sculpture park.
Aaron was born in Kansas, USA where he spent many hours helping his father install vinyl cladding. Now resident in Sydney, Aaron has achieved the honour of exhibiting in Sculpture by the Sea in both 2011 and 2012, after a rigorous selection process by a panel of experts. His towering sculpture will be on display on Bondi headland. Aaron says “I enjoy working with vinyl cladding – it is light, strong and weatherproof, and will stand up to the extreme weather conditions in this exposed location. There were some very challenging bits, but I think that I learned quite a lot, and there is a lot of potential for further works”. Aaron’s beautiful trimming of the jagged edges is a work of art in itself, and must have taken many hours of painstaking work.
Mitten Vinyl Australia is pleased to be associated with Aaron’s endeavours and wishes him well for his future artistic works.
